The agricultural scientist Norman Borlaug passed away this past Saturday, Sept. 12th at the age of 95.  Borlaugs legacy is the Green Revolution, an agricultural movement begun in the 40’s which applied conventional farming techniques in countries around the world.  The Green Revolution and Borlaug are credited with averting a food disaster and the saving of hundreds of millions of lives.  Today, half the world is fed with grain descendant from strains developed by Borlaug and his colleagues.

For more information about Norman Borlaug and his incredible life, see the NY Times article marking his death, read this Reason interview, or just type his name into Google!

  1. This article, even though I’m still on the first page, is amazing. I want to learn a hell of a lot more about this guy, and his work—particularly who’s doing it now that he’s gone!

    Thanks, man.
